Are you ready for a new year?
Maybe you made some resolutions for the new year, maybe you didn’t. Either way, here are a few great New Year’s resolutions for entrepreneurs to think about for the new year:
- Do less multi-tasking.
Multi-tasking is overrated. Leave multi-tasking behind and make presence of mind one of your business resolutions.
What does presence of mind look like? It simply means paying attention to the one thing you’re doing. Forget about seeing how many things you can do at once.
- Find more “me” time.
There’s a lot to do in the new year. You want to make money with your small business. You’re also dealing with homework, after-school activities, parents, friends, the list goes on…
But, what about you? Block out some time, every day, to do something you want to do.
Some days, you might feel like hanging out on Instagram or playing Fortnite. Other days, you might want to hang out with friends or exercise. Or, maybe you just want to relax, and reflect by writing in a journal or creating a short story or a drawing.
Making time for yourself will give you more energy to take care of your other business goals and all the other things you “have” to do.
- Make time to celebrate!
Celebrating isn’t just for holidays and your birthday. Celebrate any achievements, even small things, that happen with your business.
If you’re just starting your business, celebrate when you get your first customer, or your first sale. As the year goes on, you could also make certain small goals. For example, celebrate when you get your 10th or 50th customer, or when the money you make crosses a certain dollar amount.
- Work on your people skills.
When you have a business, at least some of your customers, business partners, and mentors are going to be different from you in age, race, background, or in some other way.
Take time to look for ways to be a better speaker and to relate to different types of people, both online and in real life.
And now, a final challenge …
- Look at your phone less.
Yep, we said it. (Or, wrote it.) Your phone is an important tool for your business, especially if you’re developing a mobile app, or using social media.
So, use your phone. Just don’t let your phone use you. Any great thing can be overdone, and that includes our phones.
Like we said before, your mind can be constantly running, thinking about all the things you need and want to do. And it’s so easy to get distracted by texts and alerts. You, and your phone, need some down time.
Again, you can use that down time to relax, reflect, write, draw, and talk to your friends, mentors, and even your parents.
That down time allows you and your phone to recharge and work better.
